Which one should I get? That depends on your particular situation & what your primary concerns & tasking needs would be in general if weight & size are a concern because you'll be very mobile then go with a folding saw if it's a basecamp of nature then you could go with a bow saw for primary base camp needs. There are serval options to consider when it comes to survival saws: blade type, size, durability, etc. The key important features to look for are! Value, Blade TPI, Comfort, Size & Weight, Durability. When these are blended together. Value: Cost vs Benefit The amount of money you spend on something like a folding saw shouldn't blow out your entire budget. Don't go overspending or overdo it. Budget according to your risk & needs rather than just spending lavishly. On the flip side, you do not want to go too cheap or just plain get the wrong thing if in the end of the saw snaps off on first use, it's not going to do much good when you need to get up your shelter before dark. Blade steel material, shape, thickness, & (TPI) teeth per inch are important factors to consider...The comfort of the grip is important if you end up doing a lot of cutting, you'll want at least possibly a curved grip if you do not have a contoured one being able to swap hands or use both hands are important to avoid hand fatigue. Size & Weight with survival saws being designed for portable kits, the carrying size & weight are an important consideration. when you are packing bug out bags and other mobile type of kits, ounces do matter in many cases it can be easy to overload yourself by packing gear without checking out your weight first. Durability The material used, blade thickness, & quality all impact durability despite using plastic handles to save weight many survival saws are surprisingly durable. Steel quality & brands that have proven themselves in adverse conditions were solid indicators in testing how durable many different folding saws are. Hatchet, Knife, or Saw? All three are important in a survival kit but the humble saw is often overlooked. My key final thoughts When buying a folding saw, it is important to apay close attention to the sawing mechanism. There are saws that only cut on the pull stroke, while others cut on both the push & pull stroke. The efficiency of the saw blade is crucial. Saw blades with fewer teeth per inch can cut quickly but coarsely. The material from which the saw influences its durability & functionally. The handle or frame should be made of a sturdy material that provides additional support to the saw blade.
